Greece's main belief system was polytheistic which encompassed a myriad of Gods. Most important Gods were the Olympian Gods, led by Zeus. For instance, Anthena, Apollo, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Aphrodite, Demeter, Ares, Artemis, Hades, Hephaestus, and Dionysus.
Each god represented human conditions such as justice, wisdom could have unique personifications of each. They resided on Mt. Olympus. They believed that Gods were given human bodies and characters, just like ordinary humans, they married and gave birth. Based on Greek myths, albeit, just passed through generations orally as there was no texts written , Gods intervened in human affairs. The most common religious practices were sacrificed and the pouring of libations, all to the accompaniment of prayers in honor of the god. The animals sacrificed were usually pigs, sheep, goats or cows and always the same sex as the god which was being honored. The meat was then either burnt completely or cooked, with part offered to the god and the rest eaten by some or all of the worshipers or taken away to be eaten later. People also believed in afterlife which they tried to perform their best in some spiritual activities in order to deserved good karma.
