- Alexander the Great was the son of Philip II of Macedon and Olympias. He was born in July 356 BCE in the Pella region, Macedon. In 342 BCE, his father who is King Philip II hired the philosopher, Aristotle to teach Alexander philosophy, poetry, drama, science and politics.After years of learning with Aristotle, Alexander had enough power to help his father defeating the Athenian and Theban armies. He was responsible for the leader of the Companion Cavalry in 338 BCE. He became King of Greece and Macedon in 336 BCE. During the time he was in charge, he united Greek city-states from 336 to 323 BCE. Additionally, he also became the leader of Persia and Asia, and created Macedonian colonies in the region. He conquered Persia in 333 BCE and Egypt in 331 BCE. Alexander died while planning to conquer Rome on June 13, 323 BCE. He died when he was 32 years old. After his death, his empire collapsed. Overtime, Alexander’s death are known as his legacy. He played an important role of finding the Greece-cities and spreading Greek culture. Finally, after Alexander’s death, Greek language, religion and culture were spread widely throughout the Middle East and still using for centuries.
