In the ancient Greek world, one of the most popular philosopher was Plato. He was born in 428 BCE, Athens. His father was Ariston and Perictione was his mother. He was the student of Socrates. Since he was a little kid, he was always around Socrates. When Socrates, he had been through a hard time. In the next 12 years,Plato traveled throughout the Mediterranean region, he concentrated in mathematics and geometry in Italy. He learnt geology, astronomy and religion in Egypt. Around 385 BCE, Plato found a school of learning which was Academy; he presided this school until he died. The Academy was one of the first institutions of higher education in the Western world. The purpose of his Academy was to provide a place for future leaders for a better government in the Greek city-states. Moreover, as a philosopher, his writings expressed justice,beauty and equality of the society. Also, they contained political philosophy, theology, cosmology, and the philosophy of language. In 348 BCE, Plato died leaving with many important contributions. |
